Next week is Refresh. Refresh is a program where in the course of one week (July 6-10) a team of volunteers paint apartments in the Ardglen/Orenda community. Last year we painted 24 apartments in one week! So, if you need your apartment painted, or you would like to volunteer to paint some apartments contact The Journey.
Next week (June 29th – July 3rd), is a great opportunity for our teens to get some leadership training. Next week is our first annual youth leadership training camp. There is still plenty of room, just contact The Journey to register.
We are having another Sunday get together and brunch to celebrate Father’s Day this Sunday at The Journey. Please join us from 11 am to 1 pm for free food, family and faith. ALL are welcome!
There is a lot happening at The Journey this summer and these are just three:
Social Survival and Employment – This summer The Journey will be running a program for teens and young adults aged 14 – 22 years to assist with employment and also provide lots of great social survival skills. The program starts on July 16, but there is a big kick-off event on Tuesday, June 30th at 4pm!
Refresh – This is a great program where we gather a team of volunteers (150 – 200 of them) and blitz the community painting apartments. Last year we painted 21 apartments in one week! This year Refresh will run the week of July 6 – 10. You can sign up to volunteer, or have your apartment painted (Ardglen/Orenda only) at The Journey.
Summer Camp – Our Summer Day Camp runs from July 13 to Aug 21. We are totally booked up, but we are taking a waiting list.
This Wednesday morning (June 17th) at 9:30am, we will have a special guest speaker – Katarina MacLeod. “Katarina MacLeod is a survivor of exploitation, sexual & physical abuse, drug addiction, kidnapping, and domestic prostitution and trafficking. In 2008, she finally escaped ‘the game’ and now works to raise awareness regarding the truth behind this industry, as well as walk alongside women who, like her, want to start over and realize they cannot do it on their own.” – Rising Angels Website. All women from our community are welcome to come out and hear Katarina’s story and to talk with her about the many issues that women face.
Saturday morning from 10am to 2pm we will be a part of Love Brampton. We are going to be cleaning up the neighbourhood and planting a container based community garden at The Journey. If you would like to join us, you can sign up at email@example.com.
I would like to thank everyone from our community who came out last night – residents, neighbours, first responders, city and regional officials, agency partners, and on and on. Last night was a tremendous evening of remembering, crying, laughing and healing. Please don’t forget what you felt and what we can do together as a community.
Tonight starting at 6:30pm we are gathering at The Journey to remember those impacted by the fire last year on this date.
This is just another reminder that this coming Monday, June 8th will be the one year anniversary of the tragic 59 Ardglen fire. The Journey is holding a prayer vigil and reception that evening from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. Everyone is invited to come to remember and to share this time of support together. Take a look at our Photo Gallery.
We now have full registration for our Summer Day Camp. We are starting a waiting list.
